The primary goal of the Equity in Education Project is that teachers will have the tools, strategies, language, and resources to provide equitable education instruction practices. As teachers are incorporating culturally relevant, responsive, and sustaining pedagogies in their classroom, a secondary goal is that there will be an increase in students’ academic achievement and improvement in classroom behaviors.
Considering how policy, government, and social movements play a major role in how we engage students in our classrooms, I believe Equity in Education is an important issue. As we look at current policies in education and our judicial systems, how they impact individuals and society as a whole, and the necessary tools students need as they are becoming citizens with voting power, voice, and influence, Equity in Education is necessary. To fulfill the goals of Equity in Education, we have to adopt attitudes of devotion, resilience, and diligence toward providing and sustaining an equitable and justice-driven classroom for long-term change.
