Equity in education is necessary. Without equity, students are losing out academically and missing out on opportunities that would enhance their current and future quality of life. As an educator, I have seen both sides of the coin. Students who have not encountered equity and those who have. Those who did not encounter equity struggled to reach the unattainable status quo of likability, standardized testing, athleticism, and generally the best all-around. Whereas those whose teachers focused on ensuring equity were able to play to their strengths to achieve goals while also using those strengths to help reduce struggling areas.
